They are loyal, intelligent, sensitive and often incredibly affectionate with the people they love. They can also be independent, strong willed and very good at deciding whether what you are asking of them is really worth doing!

After more than 20 years of living with Ridgebacks, we have learned that this combination is part of what makes them so special, but it also means they are not necessarily the right breed for every home.

More Than a Beautiful Dog: Why We Love Rhodesian Ridgebacks at Amahle

There is something undeniably striking about a Rhodesian Ridgeback.

The athletic build, beautiful wheaten coat, distinctive ridge and quiet confidence all make this a remarkable breed. But at Amahle Rhodesian Ridgebacks, it is their character that captured our hearts more than 20 years ago.

It all started with one Ridgeback…

Our first Rhodesian Ridgeback joined our family in 2004. Like so many people who discover this wonderful breed, we quickly fell in love with them. Three years later, in 2007, we had our first litter.

Since then, Ridgebacks have become much more than a breed we admire. They are part of our family, our everyday lives and everything we do at Amahle.
