Their athletic build, distinctive ridge and quiet confidence tend to attract attention wherever they go. But while their appearance may be what first draws many people to the breed, it should never be the reason alone for bringing one into your family.

Living with a Rhodesian Ridgeback is about understanding the dog behind that striking exterior.

They are loyal, intelligent, sensitive and often incredibly affectionate with the people they love. They can also be independent, strong willed and very good at deciding whether what you are asking of them is really worth doing!

After more than 20 years of living with Ridgebacks, we have learned that this combination is part of what makes them so special, but it also means they are not necessarily the right breed for every home.
